What is the role? Who are we looking for?

The Qwerty Expansion Associate program is ideally for a student who wants to run their own company one day. Through this program, we intend to give students the experience of what it's like to be working in a real startup.

Do you like brainstorming innovative ideas, discussing strategy and outreach, and reaching out and talking to University administrators? Want a chance to hone your leadership skills while doing all of the above? If so, then this position is probably for you - continue reading to get the full rundown.

What would you have to do?

  1. Lead the Team: As the expansion associate, you'll help us form and lead a team of 2-4 social+academic school reps. Together with our core team, you'd also play an important role in helping us come up with impactful outreach and marketing strategy for the academic and social stakeholders of your school. It'd be your responsibility to check in with the progress of your team on a weekly basis. Overseeing the work being done and giving that team direction will be an integral part of the associate's role.
  2. University-Wide Outreach: Do you want to be on a first-name basis with the head of the Dyson program? 😏 Forming high-value relationships with institutions like the student newspapers, honor and ethics committees, student disability office and deans of various programs - are just some examples in a long list who you'd have to reach out to in your role to help them understand Qwerty's potential for improving and enriching the classroom environment.
  3. General Outreach: This one applies to everyone - right from the CEO to the interns in our humble company. We know that at the end of the day most people check things out because someone they know tells them to - so we make sure that everyone on the team reaches out to their direct networks to help our expansion efforts!
    1. Professors: Professors are one of the most valuable parts of our network. We currently have some great relationships with professors. Helping us expand this network is really important to helping grow the company.
    2. Student Clubs and Organizations: Help make introductions for our academic representatives to get the conversation going.
    3. Social Networks: Qwerty actively uses social media to promote the platform. We'd expect you to share posts being made by the Qwerty account and any other posts relating to Qwerty. (Ps. overkill is horrible for any company, expect these to be no more than three story posts a week or something within that range.)
    4. Greek Life: Help make introductions for our social representatives to get a conversation going.

What are you getting out of this?

  1. The Experience: The work associated with this position is exactly what the founder of an early-stage startup would do. It's exactly what our founders did. You stand to learn not just from their knowledge but also to grow your own arsenal.
  2. The Money: We know that we're a young company and that we have a finite (very finite) amount of funding. But, all good work needs to be compensated. While we won't be able to pay you a fixed amount of money, you will be compensated in proportion to the number of people that join Qwerty in your school. (We will definitely have a more detailed conversation about monetary compensation once you join the team.)
  3. A meaningful addition to your resume: Working for a startup, especially as a college student, can be an invaluable contribution to your resume. Anybody can say that they're a part of x number of clubs on campus, but pushing a startup from a 100 to 1000 users shows people that you walk the talk and have a lot to contribute to their company. It should also go without saying that our founders have no problem writing letters of recommendation for anyone who does quality work.
  4. The Future: Unlike some of the larger companies which have a similar "student affiliate" program, Qwerty is a very young startup. This role presents you with the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of what we hope (and are confident) will one day be a great company. If you plan on doing this for one reason, let that reason be that you like the idea and what our company aspires to do.

If this describes you, then you're probably right for the job.

Firstly, you're someone who enjoys the hustle. What we mean by this is that you must be resilient and have the ability to figure out alternative solutions when there isn't a straight path to achieving your goal.

Secondly, you need to be a leader who thrives when given autonomy. While we'll give you plenty of direction and all the support you need, the team you help us form and the way you direct that team will be largely contingent on you. We need someone who can use this creative freedom to their advantage.

Lastly, we need someone who isn't willing to take no for an answer easily. A lot of working for a startup has to do with learning to deal with failure and rejection. We need someone who can take this in their stride and continue with their progress unhindered.

If these sound like you, we can't wait to welcome you to the team. Please fill out the form below and we'll be in touch!
