What is the role?

To start off - the title "academic rep" does not necessarily imply that we're looking for someone who's extremely studious. What we expect the Qwerty academic representative to be doing is holding conversations and maintaining relationships with the key stakeholders at their university that are involved with the academic side of things. (professors, professional fraternities, study clubs etc.) You don't have to be a triple major, and quadruple minor to know professors at your school - join our expansion team and you'll be building those networks from day one.

What do you have to do in it?

Initiating Conversations with following Key Stakeholders:

  1. Faculty Outreach: Professors and faculty are incredibly important stakeholders for Qwerty. So far, we've managed to already establish a good relationship with many professors across schools. As an academic rep you'd help us maintain these relationships in your school and also help foster new contacts with professors. This gives you a great opportunity to network with some pretty important people on grounds!
  2. Student Organization Outreach: Student organizations/clubs, volunteer groups and professional fraternities are a great outreach platform for Qwerty because of their student followings and also because we can stand to help them just as much as they can help us. As an academic rep, a large part of your responsibilities will focus on creating persuasive outreach strategies and effectively communicating with these institutions to form meaningful connections with them.
  3. General Outreach: This one applies to everyone - right from the CEO to the interns in our humble company. We know that at the end of the day most people check things out because someone they know tells them to - so we make sure that everyone on the team reaches out to their direct networks to help our marketing efforts!
    1. Social Networks: Qwerty actively uses social media to promote the platform. We'd expect you to share posts being made by the Qwerty account and any other posts relating to Qwerty. (Ps. overkill is horrible for any company, expect these to be no more than three story posts a week or something within that range.)
    2. Greek Life: Help make introductions for our social representatives with people you may know in greek life to get a conversation going.
    3. Misc: Any other member of your network who could be helpful

What are the benefits?

  1. The Experience: The work associated with this position is exactly what the founder of an early-stage startup would do. It's exactly what our founders did. You stand to learn not just from their knowledge but also to grow your own arsenal.
  2. The Money: We know that we're a young company and that we have a finite (very finite) amount of funding. But, all good work needs to be compensated. While we won't be able to pay you a fixed amount of money, you will be compensated in proportion to the number of people that join Qwerty in your school. (We will definitely have a more detailed conversation about monetary compensation once you join the team.)
  3. A meaningful addition to your resume: Working for a startup, especially as a college student, can be an invaluable contribution to your resume. Anybody can say that they're a part of x number of clubs on campus, but pushing a startup from a 100 to 1000 users shows people that you walk the talk and have a lot to contribute to their company. It should also go without saying that our founders have no problem writing letters of recommendation for anyone who does quality work.
  4. The Future: Unlike some of the larger companies which have a similar "student affiliate" program, Qwerty is a very young startup. This role presents you with the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of what we hope (and are confident) will one day be a great company. If you plan on doing this for one reason, let that reason be that you like the idea and what our company aspires to do.

If this describes you, then you're probably right for the job.

Firstly, you're someone who enjoys the hustle. What we mean by this is that you must be resilient and have the ability to figure out alternative solutions when there isn't a straight path to achieving your goal.

Secondly, you should be an effective communicator: As an academic rep, you'll be speaking to some pretty important people. In order to make sure that these conversations are fruitful we'd ideally want someone who is persuasive and clear in their communication. Also it helps if you're involved in a variety of student organizations and know at-least a few faculty members you can reach out to instantly.

Lastly, we need someone who isn't willing to take no for an answer easily. A lot of working for a startup has to do with learning to deal with failure and rejection. We need someone who can take this in their stride and continue with their progress unhindered.

If these sound like you, we can't wait to welcome you to the team. Please fill out the form below and we'll be in touch!
